Patriots Match Longest Winning Streak Since Brady Years with Win Over Jets
First-year player TreVeyon Henderson has tallied five scores this season
The New England Patriots matched their best victory streak since the Tom Brady period as they overcame AFC East rivals the Jets by 13 points in the NFL
First-year standout Henderson led the way with three TDs as the Patriots secured an eight-game winning streak for the first time since iconic QB Tom Brady's closing campaign with the team in the 2019 season
QB Drake Maye passed for 281 yards and a touchdown, connecting on 25 out of 34 attempts
The triumph increases the Patriots advantage at the top of the division as they advanced to a 9-2 record, with the New York at the foot after slipping to two wins and eight losses
The opposing team had gone in front at their home field with quarterback Justin Fields rushing for a five-yard TD to finish the New York's initial series
But the Patriots answered in the second quarter as Henderson ran in two seven-yard touchdowns before the running back hauled in a throw from Maye at the rear of the endzone in the middle of the third quarter to extend the lead to 21-7
"That was a key occasion for him rising to the challenge, and it's been excellent for him to keep gaining experience," Maye commented on the rookie. "He aims to be excellent."
Justin Fields threw to John Metchie late in the third period to close the gap for the Jets but Borregales kicked a two field goals in the fourth quarter as the home side closed out the win
