Keely Hodgkinson Concludes Campaign with Winning Display at Athlos in New York
Hodgkinson recorded her personal best of one minute 54.61 seconds the previous season in the British capital.
The Olympic champion finished her two-lap season with a triumph at the women-only Athlos event in NYC on Friday night.
{The reigning Olympic gold medallist, who earned third place at the global championships last month, excelled in an impressive win in 1:56.53 in what was only her sixth race in a season affected by a muscle issue.
Fellow Briton and world silver medallist Georgia Bell took the runner-up spot again in one minute 58.33 seconds, while St Vincent's Shafiqua Maloney (1:58.57) secured third place.
"I haven't competed much this year so it was likely easier for me to go out there and be motivated to perform," said the 23-year-old.
"The atmosphere out there is crazy so it was really, really fun."
The female-exclusive meet packed Icahn Stadium in its second edition, bringing a festive vibe to conventional athletics, with musical performances and Tiffany & Co. crowns substituting traditional winners' medals.
The 23-times tennis major winner Serena W., who is wed to Athlos founder Alexis Ohanian, was on hand to present the victors with their tiaras.
Previous champions received sixty thousand dollars (forty-four thousand six hundred and three pounds) - among the biggest cash prizes in track and field.
The competition also attracted several top athletes, as the Kenyan three-time Olympic gold medallist and world record holder Faith Kipyegon triumphed in the mile race, finishing in 4:17.78.
American Brittany Brown, the 200m bronze medallist from the recent Paris Games, secured the sprint double.
